YouTube is a hugely popular social media platform. Not only is it used by more people than Pinterest and Instagram and combined, anything you post there will do well in search engines. Google ranks videos posted on YouTube higher than just about anything else. Admittedly, this is something I need to develop myself. I am working on getting over being uncomfortable on video because I realize it’s the only way for my challengers and fellow coaches to get to know the real me. It’s like facing my fears and developing my social media platform all at once!
I know making a video is intimidating and uncomfortable at first, but you do get used to it. The reason I want you to get familiar with YouTube is because regardless of whether you use it to build your market or not, you will want to use it to make videos for your team later down the road (which is what I plan on doing). Your team will want to learn from YOU. Why? Because YOU are the leader! They chose YOU!
When you first start out, try these tricks to develop your confidence:
- Post a short, 30-seconds-or-less video in your Facebook groups or challenge groups at least once a week
- Don’t want to be the center of attention? Experiment with videos where you speak, but don’t appear on camera all the time
- Experiment with apps that allow you to shoot short videos like PicPlayPost
