Don’t try to “bank” calories during the day so you can eat more at the party. That is a surefire way to ensure you end up ravenous and consuming more than you intended later on in the day.
During the day, limit simple carbs like bread, pasta, sugar. They will cause spikes in insulin and stimulate cravings. Instead, make sure you get adequate amounts of protein, fat, and veggies with lots of fiber.
If the party is a potluck, bring a healthy food or appetizer to ensure there will be something there you can eat. Veggie crudités are great to bring because they satisfy your need to munch, fill you up and are extremely low in calories (just don’t douse them in ranch dip).
Drink your Shakeology right before the party to help with cravings and to fill you up.
Once you’re there, go easy on the alcohol. Have a glass of water in between every drink (you can even bring a water bottle just to make sure you have one handy). Too much alcohol isn’t just high in calories, it will lower your inhibitions and make you less likely to restrain yourself with the goodies.
Stay away from the food, logistically speaking. Don’t stand near the buffet table. Take one plate, eat it and throw it away immediately so you’re not tempted to go back and fill up again.
Have fun! Avoid hangovers so you can get your workout in on January First and start the new year off on the right foot.
