Cool App Alert: Custom Eats
It’s easy to stay on track with what you eat when you’re at home, when you have full control over the ingredients and how they’re prepared – but what about those of us that love dining out? It’s no fun to give that up! If you’ve even been at a loss as to what to order, the Custom Eats App can help you out.
I found out about Custom Eats last January when I attended the Beachbody New Leader Conference. A new friend I met there, Jaime Messina, told me about it. She’s an amazing coach – a rapper, badass woman AND app developer. That’s quite a resume! When she first told me about it, I thought it was a great idea and seemed like the answer to a lot of the struggles we deal with when trying to stick to a specific program or special diet away from home.
The app is especially great for those following a vegan, vegetarian, gluten free, paleo, clean eating or other special plan. It’s a way to share tips and discover hidden gems on the menu and getting creative with customizations. Don’t worry– it’s not only OK to ask for things on the side, to omit certain ingredients or for a substitution – it’s often what’s best for your health. We all have to be advocates for our own wellness. This app not only encourages that, it makes it easier for you to figure out what to ask for.
Jaime just told me that when you log just five meals on the app, the developers will donate a meal to No Kid Hungry, an organization created to assist kids in need. When a user reaches 100 meals uploaded, Custom Eats will match that and donate 100 meals! How cool is that?! So recently on our trip to California, I logged a few meals myself. My family tends to like the non-healthy stuff, and I struggle finding clean eats on the menu. When we were at a Mexican restaurant I logged a delicious shrimp cocktail with ceviche. YUM! On Venice Beach, we found a cafe and while the family ate burgers I found a wonderful Cobb Salad. In Disneyland, a great Manchego Salad. I hope my tips will help others, but I know they will help feed a child in need! #winwin
