Success Club

Success Club is one of the keys to a thriving Beachbody business.  It’s an indicator of how many people you’re helping and how quickly your business is growing.  SC5 or SC10 is earned each month and should be a non-negotiable goal of for anyone that is serious about BUILDING THEIR BUSINESS. Not hitting Success Club for some each month would be like firing yourself. Don’t do that!  Focus on helping and sharing the business opportunity.

There are TWO Success Club Levels:

  • Success Club 5: 5-9 SC points
  • Success Club 10: 10 or more SC points

Success Club points are earned through Challenge Pack and Shakeology HD sales.  These are the SC points you will earn through sales:
Challenge Pack = 2 points

Freekeh Salad with Chickpeas

Freekeh Salad with Chickpeas

Have you ever heard of freekeh?  I hadn’t, but when I saw it next to the ancient grains at my health food store, I knew I had to try it.  I was really pleased with the outcome!  It has a nutty flavor, similar to wheat berries. It almost reminds me a little bit of wild rice.  Try it in salads, risottos, and pilafs.

Freekeh Chickpea Salad

1 C. freekeh (unprepared)
1/2 tsp. sea salt
1/4 tsp. black pepper
1/2 C. fresh flat-leaf parsley, chopped
1 bunch green onions, finely chopped
1 15-oz. can chickpeas, drained and rinsed
2 oz. Feta cheese crumbles (1/2 of a 4-oz. container)
1/4 C. fresh lemon juice, more to taste
1 tsp. ground cumin
1 garlic clove, minced
6 Tbsp. extra-virgin olive oil

In a saucepan, bring freekeh and 2 1/2 C. water to a boil.  Cover and reduce heat; simmer about 15 minutes until freekeh is tender.  Cool slightly.  Toss freekeh with the salt, pepper, parsley, onions, chickpeas and Feta crumbles.  In a small bowl, whisk together the lemon juice, olive oil, garlic, and cumin.  Pour over freekah and toss.  Chill well.

How To Exercise When You Don’t Have Time

As a busy working mom, my days are full and schedule is packed. If you are looking for a great way to workout then check out these exercise classes. Between taking kids here and there, getting dinner ready and checking off a million things on my to-do list it can be a challenge to find time to exercise. Even if you have ZERO extra minutes a day to devote to an exercise plan, you can work those muscles.

Have you made any New Year’s resolutions this year? If you have chosen to get fitter during 2013 have you decided which physical activity you will choose?  At this time of the year indoor activities are sometimes more attractive than the outdoors. Sometimes the shear variety of indoor classes can be overwhelming so I am going to look at some of the more popular Pilates training classes available.

When getting fitness class services you have to get help from a instructor so when performing an exercise make sure you really know what it should look like, try it a few times with little to no weight and check your form either in the mirror or with a video. Before adding weight and starting your working sets ensure you know what the exercise feels like when done correctly, of course using comfortable gym clothes can also be really beneficial for this.

Boxercise is very popular with the men although equally popular for women. It focuses on upper body work; arms, abs, chest and shoulders. Body pump is a mixture of weights and aerobic exercise providing a Full body exercise.

Spinning is a great aerobic exercise – different to outdoor cycling as you can alter the tension of the wheels making it easier or harder.

How do I stop eating so much at night? 

Nighttime eating is a common problem.  You’re busy during the day, but at nighttime you lose control and go off the rails with the foods you eat.  It could the result of one of the following reasons:

You don’t get enough to eat during the day

If you’re trying to lose weight, don’t try losing weight by skipping meals or creating too much of a calorie deficit early on.  Doing so usually ends up making you ravenous by evening and leading to the munchies when your willpower is at its weakest.  Instead, allocate the majority of your calories for lunch instead of dinner  and eat a lighter meal in the evening.  Also, try to keep your blood sugar from plummeting (which can cause cravings) by eating 4-5 smaller meals throughout the day instead of 2-3 big meals.

You’re eating too many refined carbs

Sugar and refined carbs provide quick energy, but cause a drop in blood sugar that stimulates your appetite.  Avoid any processed or refined carbohydrates such as white flour, bread, pasta and especially white sugar.  Opt for carbs that have fiber and make you feel fuller such as green leafy veggies, brown rice and whole grains.

You’re not getting enough fat and/or protein

Fat and protein help you feel fuller.  Eat lean protein and “good” fats (olive oil, avocado, nuts) at each meal in the right combination can contribute to satiety.  20 to 35 percent of total calorie intake should be from fat (aim for 7 percent or less from “bad” fats) and about 20 to 25 percent should be from protein.  The 21 Day Fix is a great program to follow to ensure you are getting the right foods in the correct combinations.

Your diet lacks certain nutrients

Your body will also often crave foods that are rich in the nutrients your diet is lacking.  By taking a daily vitamin or a supplement like Shakeology you’ll help fill in those nutritional gaps and cut cravings.

You’re stressed out

Maybe you’re not really hungry at all, but rather are an stress eater.  Many people also eat to self-soothe (or abuse drugs or alcohol).  Stress itself releases certain chemicals that can lead to weight gain.  Creating healthy habits like exercise and/or meditation can help with that. Using the best light therapy lamps can also improve your overall mood so you can give it a try whenever you feel down.

You’re bored

How to Create a 21 Day Fix Meal Plan

When you first start out on the 21 Day Fix, figuring out which foods and how much of them you can eat can take some getting used to.  However, the program is ultimately pretty simple to follow once you get the hang of it.  These tips and links should help you get organized in planning and tracking your meals.

 How to Track Food for 21 Day Fix

  • Read the 21 Day Fix Eating Plan book that came with your 21 Day Fix so you thoroughly understand the concept behind the program
  • Become accustomed to what’s on the 21 Day Fix approved foods list (foods at the top of the list are better for you.  Foods towards the bottom are still approved, but aren’t quite as good)
  • Figure out your calorie bracket you’ll be following while on the 21 Day Fix (page 4 of the 21 Day Fix Eating Plan book)
  • Once you know your calorie bracket, you’ll see how many containers of each color you’re allowed each day
  • An explanation of how to tally your meals appears on pages 82-84 of the 21 Day Fix Eating Plan book.  You can also print our 21 Day Fix tally sheets to track what you’ve eaten each day or check out some of the other creative ways to track your servings
  • Now you’re ready to plan your meals…

Meal Planning for 21-Day Fix

  • Get inspired by recipes that look good! Check out pages 44-69 of the 21 Day Fix Eating Plan book for simple recipes along with corresponding container counts.
  • Want it to be really easy?  Pages 73-75 in the 21 Day Fix Eating Plan book outline three days of eating plans that take the guesswork out of meal planning.
  • You can adapt your own favorite recipes for clean eating, using the 21 Day Fix approved foods.  Here are some clean eating substitutions

Prepping Your 21 Day Fix Meals

  • Sunday afternoon/evening is a great time for meal prep.  Simple lunches you can take to work can include a chicken breast or fish, steamed veggies and brown rice/quinoa or some other whole grain
  • Mason jars are also great for meal prep – check out this Mason Jar Salad idea
  • Get your 21-Day Fix Snacks ready.  Corresponding colored baggies can be found at Target and Walmart.
  • Not sure how to count your meals?  Page 70-71 in the Eating Plan book is my go-to resource for learning how to calculate mixed foods.

  • One of my challengers took the 21 Day Fix Foods List with her to the grocery store and bought all the foods she thought she would and enjoy and eat during the week.  Because she had these foods on hand, she was stocked with everything she needed and had inspiration to base her meals off of these “approved” 21 Day Fix foods.   Here is my favorite 21 Day Fix Grocery List.
  • It’s great to prep entire meals ahead of time.  Simply doing a grilled chicken or fish along with veggies and a whole grain creates a balanced meal and can be prepped a day ahead of time, and/or frozen for later.
