As a Beachbody coach, you are the brand. Not Beachbody. If you lead with selling the product, you are going to fail – and I see many coaches doing this. Their blogs come across as a big advertisement for the products, their newsfeed is filled with product placement. They don’t bring any value to the table to really help their challengers. Not cool. Hide, delete, unfriend.
Let’s make this very clear: This job is not about the product. It’s about YOU. Your personal brand is crucial. Your challengers have selected you as their coach because of what YOU bring to the table. It’s about how YOU add value, how YOU help them, and how YOU communicate with them. If you’re not clear on what that is, how will they have confidence in what you’re doing? But it is recommended if you don’t have branding knowledge, you can also hire a professional branding company – getgoosebumps.
Let’s start with your a Facebook photo. In many cases, this will be someone’s first impression of you.
- DO: Use a brightly-lit, flattering image of yourself
- DON’T: Use pics of your kids, cats, dogs, etc… you get the idea
- DON’T: Use a group photo where people have no clue which one is you
Now that you have your image taken care of, you will need to define your personal brand. These are the things that make you WHO YOU ARE outside of Beachbody and will attract challengers to you. These are things you are passionate about, knowledgeable in, and want to learn more about. Things you will never get tired writing about. Your audience will sense your enthusiasm for these things. NEVER write about things you don’t really care about. It’s a quick way to lose readers. As you know, there are plenty of Beachbody coaches out there. What will set YOU APART from other coaches? How will you attract challengers? How will you build your business when there are already over 200,000 people doing the same thing you are? Let’s get clear with this. Answer these questions:
- What FIVE things do I offer my challengers to help them in their fitness journey?
- What FIVE things do I bring to the table as a Beachbody coach that other coaches do not?
- What FIVE things am I most passionate about outside of health and fitness?
If you talk about these things on your blog and social media platforms, you will attract people with similar interests. If you keep the answers to these questions in the forefront of your mind at all times, you’ll never run out of things to talk about and you’ll have a clear sense of direction with your business. Other things to talk about?
- Helpful articles you have found. Make sure you don’t just post links, but add your own thoughts and opinions on what you have read and why it was thought-provoking. Use it as the basis for starting a conversation
- Healthy recipes are GREAT to post. Again, use high-quality images (read my article 5 Ways to Improve Your Food Photos) and never copy and paste copyrighted text.
- If all else fails, motivational quotes an images are good, but they can’t be the only thing you post. If at all possible, make them your own. Use an app like Rhonna Designs or Word Swag to create new, unique images. Add your URL or brand name. In your text, write something about how that quote has resonated with you personally.
It used to be that with MLMs (multi-level marketing) companies, local support was key. Remember the neighborhood Avon lady? She would deliver products personally and come into your home to do it. Her customers had a personal relationship with her. In today’s social media world, your market is now global, not local. You need to be building your brand on a number of different social media platforms: Facebook, Pinterest, Instagram, etc. but still be creating that personal connection that worked many years ago. Build relationships first, sales come second. Ways to build connections:
- Video gives your challengers a deeper sense of who you are than photos do, so use them frequently
- Don’t be shy about admitting your mistakes and weaknesses – they make great conversation starters in Facebook groups!
- Respond to people personally. Bottom line? Always add value to the conversation and anything you post.
